Frequently Asked Questions

What is CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic is a hands-on, health care profession that focuses on restoring the position and function of the central (spinal, pelvic and cranial) and peripheral joints.

In Canada, the approach includes patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment.  There are many reasons people seek Chiropractic care; these include:  Back pain, Neck pain, Dizziness, Headache, Strains/Sprains, sports and work injuries, Arthritis, stiffness or decreased motion in the back, neck, shoulders or limbs, and general health and well-being. Treatment and management plans are non-invasive and drug-free.  They can be simple or comprehensive including such therapies as adjustment/manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise rehabilitation, low level laser therapy, healthy lifestyle promotion, nutritional counseling and other holistic, conservative therapies.

What is an ADJUSTMENT/ MANIPULATION?

Adjustment, also know as spinal manipulative therapy, is the most common form of Chiropractic treatment.  It is a manual technique that uses highly refined skills developed over years of intensive Chiropractic education.  The adjustment requires a carefully controlled, high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) force delivered by the clinician to the patient’s dysfunctional spinal or extremity joints.  The primary goal is to re-balance the central processing systems by activating the body’s natural stimulus/response mechanisms that involve the nerves, muscles and bones.  The result is decreased pain, restored function, and better central nerve system processing.

What is HOLISM?

Holism is an idea that all of the properties of a given system cannot be determined or explained by its component parts alone.  Instead, the system determines how the parts behave. In other words,

“the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”
                                                                        –Aristotle.

In health care, holism pertains to the consideration given to the interconnections between the different parts that make up the whole body.

How does LASER work?

Low level laser (cold) therapy speeds up healing.  Laser light can heal wounds, decrease inflammation, decrease pain, and affect our immune status.  Focused beams of light applied to the surface of the skin penetrate deep into tissue structures and stimulate chemical and cellular reactions.  There are a number of clinical presentations that respond favorably to cold laser. These include:  back pain, neck pain, wounds and scars, sinusitis, arthritis, knee pain, shoulder pain, tendonitis, fractures, sprains and strains, post-surgical edema, carpal tunnel syndrome, and heel spurs.

What type of ADJUSTMENT TECHNIQUES does Dr. Michele use?
